Psalm 51: The Perfect Prayer Companion for Restoration and Prayers of Mercy (OUR PLEA FOR MERCY)

Psalm 51: The Perfect Prayer Companion for Restoration and Prayers of Mercy (OUR PLEA FOR MERCY)

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions
Our plea for mercy is and the assurance of his forgiveness is tied to Gods Character of Love and the magnanimity of his capacity to forgive and this is what we hold on to when we cry for his mercy upon us whenever we err.

2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin
Our Plea for Mercy contains a request for thorough washing because generally washing brings a refreshing feel to a dirty entity that goes through a cleansing process

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me
Our Plea for Mercy contains a deep review and acknowledgement of our erring state and the reality that we will continually need his grace to stay away from the sins and weights that so easily beset us

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest
Our plea for Mercy contains an acknowledgement that we have SINNED against our God whos always watching us and watching over us.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me
Our plea for mercy contains an acknowledgment that our erring tendencies come from an old battle with the flesh and adamic nature.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom
Our plea for mercy contains a reiteration of our promise to be open with our father who knows all but desires that we search deep so that we can lay  all our inadequacies before him so that he can reveal deep things that will lay the foundation of wisdom for our salvation from sinful desires

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow
Our Plea for mercy includes a request for purging from sin so that we attain a state of purity and maintain the order

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice
Our plea for mercy includes a joy that comes to our heart and a confidence restored by the spirit when guilt has been taken away

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities
Our plea for mercy includes a request for God to blot out our iniquities this is a typology of what God did to Jesus on the cross when he bore the sins of the world and took our punishment.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Our plea for mercy is a request to the creator of hearts to place a heart with his character in us and constantly renew our spirits to stay in the path of righteousness

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Our Plea for Mercy contains our cry for his presence to never depart from us because then we are truly doomed and open to the attacks of the evil ones

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit
Our plea for mercy is a cry for restoration and liberty from all forms of oppression erring may have opened us to, its a request to truly be upheld, held up by God against our transgressions that want to bring us down

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Our plea for mercy is a promise to help others as we have been helped, to save others as we have been saved, to reconcile men as we have been reconciled

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
Our plea for mercy includes prayers of deliverance from the guilt that comes upon when we deviate from the right path.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise
Our Plea for mercy contains a request for the spirit of praise to be restored to us again

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
Our plea for mercy contains a reiteration of our obedience to God because that is his top priority more than the sacrifices we make in his name

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise
Our plea for mercy contains the reiteration of our brokenness and contriteness of heart because that is a heart state God cannot despise or ignore

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem
Our plea for mercy includes a plea for God show us his goodness and rebuild our faith in him and reconstruct our lives, fixing broken edges and connecting us to his strength

19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Our plea contains a reiteration that everything we do for God counts when we are restored to his will
