Equipped for Emergence Day 5 - Pastor Tilewa Emmanuel

It's such a joy to be here, and I really celebrate you for the amazing work. It's awesome to see God's work growing and many testifying to It's goodness. I have been following every teaching from day one and I must say what profound work it is that all those that have come before me has done
In fact, I feel like saying, just go and listen to what everyone has said and you would be blessed.
So tonight, we would just take it a little further and see one or two things from God's word
Father we pray that in this place, as we study your word, you give us insight into what you meant when you inspired it. We trust that there is no confusion in our heart
And by your spirit, your name is glorified even as our spirits are edified, praise God

Without wasting time, we would be looking at

Equipped By the Spirit of God

And I would like to start with an illustration for our theme

Equipped for Emergence
When a manufacturer wants to build a car, he takes his time to look at what he wants the car to achieve, the function of him equipping the car would be based on the things he wants the car to achieve
This means that, he will equip a car based on what he wants the car to be used for
If you know cars well, they would say some cars are meant for on-road purposes
While others are meant for off road
But if a manufacturer is in a hurry and put on road features in an off road car, that car will not last for a long time
Listen, God is the manufacturer and we are His creation, this means that He equips us according to His purpose
What we describe as emergence, like what one of our minster said, is not to blow, but rather to walk in the perfect will of God
Col 4:12: “Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God”
The goal of emergence is to become one that is able to do what God has purposed for us.
This is the essence of our bible text
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3
It says here that the goal of all scripture, which is holy writings, is to furnish a man into every good works. If we look at the writer paul here, he was talking to timothy and his verdict is that, if he must do the work of ministrry well, if he must live well, then he must be ready to walk complete in all the instructions that God has given through his word

Let us talk a little detour, and just follow through this text, 

From what we have read, we can clearly see, that the bible contains all that we need in our life, the instructional manual of our creation is the bible. For us to walk complete in life and in fellowship to God, we must obey the tenets and precepts that God has laid down. This things he has taught us from the writings that are inspired
Listen, the bible as a whole is the inspired word of God, we do not exalt any word of man, or any teaching that does not have its root in the bible, no matter how knowledgeable i am, i must be careful to stick to the things that God's word teaches. This is why Paul taught us earlier in 2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
the greek word for rightly dividing is Orthotomeo, and it means to cut straight
It was a word commonly used among miners, and it reflects what they try to do when they find precious stones in a rock
The cutting of the waste to get the precious gold is the cutting straight process, so paul was saying in other words, in other to get the word of God, you must be willing to diligent in finding out through His word
So what does the word of God say about being equipped by his spirit, in the book of Genesis 1:26, God created man, and he did this in His image and His liking, which means that man was an extension of God
What God could do as a creator, he was willing that man could replicate the same
The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's; But the. earth He has given to the children of men. Psalm. 115:16 (NKJV)
The mandate was for man to be like a god, ruling with the same ease that God uses.
And this was possible because God had put His spirit in man.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Gen 2:7
The breath there is the same thing that is used for a spirit, it means it is by the spirit of God that man was able to hold and wield this authority
But man sinned, and the authority that was sponsored by that relationship was broken. The lifeforce that God had invested in man was truncated and man could not longer function in the capacity that God has placed him. This is the first example of someone who left the place of equipping, Eve was tempted by the invitation to become a God, and this made them loose what God had bestowed upon them.
But Jesus came to restore this. and in John 14:1-2, he explained that his mission is to prepare a place for us, where we can now coexist with God.
In fact he points to something that we often miss.
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
The fellowship that Jesus was working towards was not just the father, son and spirit, it was the Godhead with you involved in it
You became part of the family of God by the reason of Jesus's resurrections, kai, what power and authority you carry, when you understand that you have become a force to be reckoned with, how powerful you have become by christ's sacrifice
These realities are the summary of the realities of the spirit in dwelling the believer, the kind of power that you wield, such that you can step on serpents and scorpions, which properly interpreted means that you can step on the head of principalities and powers, anytime and anywhere
But if we enjoy this realities and call it a night here, then we are not doing what Paul said, He said all scriptures, this means that we must be willing to take together, we must be willing to sit down and not just be happy about the part of the scriptures, that looks like it inflates our ego. We must not just be satisfied with promises and sweet prophecies
remember we have doctrine, we have reproof, but we also have instructions in righteousness
Doctrine without instructions leads the believer to complacency, it brings you to a place where you are like a loaded gun that has lost its trigger. Listen, this is why many believer jump from one meeting to another, but never enjoy the reality of the things that they heard
Hearing the word of God is sweet, but the place of equipping comes when you are careful enough to note the instructions that exists in the word for you are you are willing to follow through
