against tides POV on trending AMAPRAYER Video

 My friend, Ebube Asogwa wrote me this; I’ll share my concurring points right underneath 

EBUBE ASOGWA: “Seun the amaprayer wasn’t a joke,  It was during a prayer session in Ghana, Then the instrumentalist just switched.

It was spontaneous.

It wasn’t recorded as something they wanted to trend.


I don’t think it’s an extreme Seun, It wasn’t a case of happiness. 

If they are against the prayer, then they are religious

Amapiano is an up tempo beat. See TY Bello album na!

You can pray with it. No be everything there be worship

 Plus worship is not the music. Worship is the heart

Or would prayer stop, if the song sponsoring it was done on a reggae beat. Why do people think they can use strings and pads alone to enter the “mood” of prayer ?

If you need the beat or instrumental to be entering mood then I don’t think you have started praying seriously. It’s supposed to help us pray and that’s all there is to it. The Holyspirit can move without it.

Most of the time it’s because what we are already used to a certain kind of music, We now pride ourselves in it and turn it to a culture

Lawrence Oyor came and was singing chants in Indian riffs and music style . Who beat him? Or said it’s carnal?  If the stuff was born out of the need to do something new then abeg, But you see. Even us in church, there are times we pray and we switch tempo. From slow to fast. Fast rocks . Praise and then they ask you to pray in the holyghost when the instrumentalists are Playing

Psalms hmyns and spiritual songs are not a case of genre

Na yesterday.. Holy Spirit sit me down talk am.Because in my mind na nonsense. Then the first question is “is it to you?”

That’s exactly what happened when ma fo fayo came out in church and omobaba.Meanwhile these things have been in the system for so long and most people didn’t know until these songs came out

The goal is for the earth to see the kingdom of God. Abi? By the spirit! So let’s do that. Leave the people that are praying amapiano or Reggae Or rock .

Pray your own.

You know those hymns we sing in reggae. Why dem no say e carnal?  Is raggae beat worship and strings?

 What works for you may not work for others, it doesn’t make it wrong. Or you wan tell me say if you go dance makosa to praise and worship, God no go follow you talk.

We undermine what prayer really is. And make prayer sometimes look like them dey beat us for dream.

There are conversations you have with people, you eliminate all forms of distractions. Because you are intrested in what the person is saying. That’s what prayer really is. At some point the music might distract you, even the worship so you pray speaking to God and waiting to hear from him.

Abi you think Daddy G.o uses strings and pad in his ear when he wants to pray? Or Jesus-used cymbals when he was travailling on the mount to the point where he bled?

We have to understand that the systems we use to travail , music is an enabler. But it’s not the most important. A consecrated and contrite heart is important
So if the amapiano prayer was done out of carnality, it’s a sin. If it’s not, which from all sources, looks so. It’s not


Truth is, My thoughts and Ebube’s thoughts are not far on this issue at all, 
It’s just an “against the tide opinion” I’m not saying we should or should not frown at that video on amaprayer, I’m just saying let’s not be hypocrites about the whole thing.
